Republocrats who needs them?
I have found a disturbing phenomenon in Macon County. This phenomenon is many people are masquerading as republicans. Oh sure they will tell you they are republicans but can local candidates count on them for support? No they can’t! Due to protecting business interest and maintaining a good relationship with local democrats, our candidates suffer. Thus the term “Republocrats” have been bestowed upon our half-brethren. Do we need the Republocrats? Yes we need them, their vote counts. Can we count on them for support? No!!! What say you?

Voters in central Illinois seem to vote in less party structured ways than they do in Chicago. Maybe it is midwest common sense, I don't know. They are more likely to vote for the person, rather than blindly follow the party. If more people understood that the proliferation of problematic Illinois politics originates and is supported from and by Chicago democrats, they would understand why it is important to be able to counter that Cook County domination in State government is with more downstate Republicans.
The best we can do is to do as much as possible to nominate really good candidates that stick to Republican values and will represent our downstate interests.
One more thing. If Oberweis wants to run for anything in Illinois as a Republican, would someone in the party please say no? Please?
Esteemed colleague, I believe Macon County Republicans tend to vote for the person. I know for a fact with the exception of Michael Day, the Democrats will largely vote along party lines. If I had a nickel for every irrational railing I’ve heard lobbied against local Republicans, I could make a hefty donation to some local campaigns. I believe Macon County could really inspire the state party if we could be Louis Durbin and Damon Cross elected.
Jim still has another chance in November. It's now a slim chance but a chance nonetheless.
Caesar,
I know Lois Durbin. Tell me about Damon Cross. What's he looking to do? City Council? A run for Hare's seat?
Damon has his work cut out for him he's running for Macon County Recorder. The incumbent is Mary Eaton. She becomes a "Tangney" around elections. From what I saw during his city council race he advocated strong republican views and he's very bright. He's also a minority. In time he might take a run at Flider.
Damon is going to have to explain why he became a Republican, except out of expediency. He masqueraded as a Democrat for quite a while. You're not a bad guy, Damon, and you're kind of smart, but you need to explain your change of heart, and convince people that it wasn't just because you want a job.
